Q.
|
What is a
conference call?
|
A.
|
A conference call is a
telephone call in which more than two people take part. Technology today means
that the total number of people who can take part in a single conference call
can be very large - as many as 10,000 people can attend the same conference
call from all parts of the world.
Conference calls typically replace face to face meetings for
groups of people, typically between 5 and 10 in number. Companies all over the
world use them as a quick, cost effective and efficient way to communicate when
it is difficult or expensive to get everyone together in the same room.

| |
Q.
|
How does a conference call
work?
|
A.
|
You do not need any other
equipment than your standard phone, either fixed line or mobile phone. Some
people use specially designed loudspeaker conference phones if there is more
than one person at each location, but the common practice is for each
individual to dial in using their own phone.
A conference call utilises standard public telephone networks and
can be made from any phone, in any place around the world 24 hours a day, 7
days a week. The technology behind the Conference Call Service is a high grade
switch that enables all the lines coming into a conference to be at the same
volume and ensures that people can speak at the same time without delays or
clipping, even if they are the other side of the world. It is clever stuff, but
what it means is that the call is almost as if the participants were in the
same room.

| |
Q.
|
How much notice is needed to
set up a conference call?
|
A.
|
A conference call can be
arranged at a minute's notice, although the more time you allow the easier it
will be for you to distribute the dial-in details to the participants.
|
| |
Q.
|
Will I be charged if the call
doesn't take place or is cancelled?
|
A.
|
3+ do not normally charge if a
conference call does not take place (i.e. a 'no show') and there are no
cancellation fees. However, we are always grateful if you can let us know in
advance if a conference call is not going to take place.

Q.
|
What is a MeetingSpace number?
|
A.

into your conference and can be an 0844, 0845 or 0207/8. For callers from overseas, we have a number

|
| |
Q.
|
What is a PIN number?
|
A.
|
There are two types you need to be aware of 1) Host PIN, and 2) Participant PIN.
1) Host PIN: If you are the account holder, to start a conference call you need to dial your MeetingSpace number and then when prompted enter the Host PIN. This begins your conference call.
2) Participant PIN: If you are a participant, to join a conference call you will need to dial the MeetingSpace number and then when prompted enter the Participant PIN.
|
| |
Q.
|
Will our conference call be
disconnected if it exceeds the pre-booked duration?
|
A.
|
3+ do not limit the duration of
a 3+ Open conference call even if the conference starts late. However if you
use the online booking/scheduling feature your call will be valid from the
scheduled time to 1 hour after the end time only.

Q.
|
Do I need any specialist equipment in order to join a conference call?
|
A.
|
No, you can access your conference call using any landline or mobile phone,
within the UK or Internationally. However, if you are using a mobile phone,
please ensure that you find a good location in order to maximise the quality of
your line. When using a speaker phone it is important that you use a
professional conference telephone otherwise you may get noise, echo and gaps in
the conversations due to poor loud speaker phones.
